ABOUT US

We walk together to facilitate life. . . For a present without Violence.

Our Founder & CEO

Karina Milagros Gomez-Herrera is a native of Venezuela, and a well-known pillar in her community of South Florida.  She is a fashion designer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, book author, and motivational speaker. She is a mother of two boys and a grandmother of 3.

As a single mom, and domestic violence survivor, Karina did not let her situation define her as she focused on moving forward.  She went back to school to obtain her Masters, and started teaching fashion at the University at night as she worked a full-time job as a designer for a textile company.

In her years of healing, she educated herself and gained a sense of self-knowledge, self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-sufficiency, self-esteem, self-healing, and self-wellness to regain her emotional and professional stability. All the while her vision for the DCTADV’s project has been developing in her heart and mind.

Our History

Designers & Creative Teams Against Domestic Violence was born when the Founder, and domestic violence survivor, drawn from her own life experiences as a single mom. Having gone through the system, what was offered to her, and her desire to do more to help others, Karina draws from her talents as a designer, her journey, wants to offer a haven where they can not only improve their situation but give hope, so they can strive for a better tomorrow.

Through her own growth experience and incorporating her artistic talents, Karina forms a socially responsible vision for DCTADV to design a location that offers programs of empowerment, Training, and employment to survivors and to bring back the production of Made in America garments, infusing our communities with economic growth.

Our Mission

Our mission is to facilitate a violence-free environment where we can offer a network of services to survivors such as therapeutic counseling, self-development, education, and job training, in the garment industry, which will promote job growth and economic development to the individual and underutilized business zones in our community.

Our Vision

To Facilitate a haven for survivors by bringing awareness, self-healing, and self-sufficiency. DCT will have a state-of-the-art building to offer an array of services and training. Services include psychological, holistic, and creativity therapies through the development of Design, Art, and Music skills. Our training is primarily focused on Fashion Design and Sewing which will enable survivors to secure their first job within our network. By proudly producing “Made in USA” top-quality goods, DCT will contribute to the economic development of the historically underutilized business zones by positively influencing job growth in the community and in the garment industry.
